Nandaime, Nicaragua -- Rest and Recreation |
|
![]() Photo courtesy Christina Thompson DMD After a hard week on their feet, the NEVOSH group headed South to beautiful San Juan del Sur. We stayed for a couple of days at Pelican Eyes resort, Piedras y Olas. (Rocks and Waves) It is known locally as Pelicano. It is a beautiful new resort complex that strives to do good things with the tourist dollars that it brings in. The resort serves as a rescue facility for various types of animals. The place crawls with graceful Nicaraguan cats. They have a veterinary staff on hand that looks after the menagerie of monkeys, guineas, ducks, cats, and a boar. The Jean Brugger foundation also uses some of the proceeds from the resort to assist in education and development of Nicaraguan children. It is a little awkward to stay in such a beautiful resort, when most of the locals cannot afford to visit it. The fact that Pelican Eyes gives back to the community makes this a little easier to deal with. The view over the bay at San Juan is spectacular. The fishing nearby can be spectacular. There are great surf spots to the North and South. If you go, try the lobster bisque and the ceviche. Ceviche is a dish of raw seafood marinated in lime juice and spices. The lime serves to "cook" the seafood without heat. 2008 Rest and Recreation Photo Gallery This link will open in a new browser window. Be patient.
